Partial Supply List
Basic Drawing Supplies (needed for most projects)
- A sketchbook, any size that you prefer
- Newsprint Pad
- 24" x 36" piece of 1/8" hardboard
- Set of pencils with different hardnesses (e.g., 4B, 2B, HB, 2H, 4H...)
- Kneadable gum eraser
- 1 roll of green painter's tape (1" wide)
- Spray-can of workable fixative (Krylon brand is good)
- Retractable knife with snap off blades
- Straight edge or ruler
- Bottle of white glue
- 1-inch wide foam brush
- Empty plastic margerine container
Bleached-Line Drawing
- Basic drawing supplies
- 2 sheets of Fabriano Academia paper (80-lbs. weight)
- 1 bottle of black Quink or Waterman's non-waterproof ink (buy ONLY THESE BRANDS because other brands will not work)
- 1 stick of Vine or Willow Charcoal
- 1 foam brush (2 inches wide)
- 2 plastic cups (not Styrofoam)
- 1 nib holder
- 2 large, pointed bowl nibs (see the image below)
Mid-tone Value Study
- Basic drawing supplies
- 2 sheets of Canson Mi-Teintes paper (Steel Grey colour)
- 1 Blending Stomp (size #2)
- 1 stick white Conté (HB or medium hardness)
- 1 stick black Conté (HB or medium hardness)
- Several small, still-life objects obtained from home
Ink-Wash Study
- Basic drawing supplies
- 1 sheet of Fabriano Academia paper (80-lbs. weight)
- 1 stretched sheet of good quality paper (e.g., Arches 140 lb. hot pressed watercolour paper)
- Waterproof black ink (any brand, but it MUST be waterproof)
- Chinese or Japanese calligraphy brush with medium size soft bristles and a pointed tip
- Nibs and nib holder from Project 1
- Several plastic cups (not Styrofoam)
- An old, beat up pair of shoes or boots or some smallish items with interesting characteristics
Orthographic Section with Invented Interior
- Basic drawing supplies
- 1 stretched sheet of good quality paper (e.g., Arches 140 lb. hot pressed watercolour paper)
- A fruit or vegetable (nothing frozen)
- A mechanical device (e.g., a clock with gears exposed)
Shape & Texture / Foamcore Relief
- 2 sheets of White Foamcore, 20" x 30" x 3/16" thick
- #1 Exacto knife with #11 refill blades
- Retractable Snap off knife
- Straight Edge
- White Glue
- Hot Glue Gun with sticks

Colour Web
- 2 sheets of Fabriano Academia paper (80-lbs. weight)
- #1 Exacto knife (not a snap off or carpet knife)
- Several #11 Exacto knife refill blades

- 60 ml tube of Primary Cyan
- 60 ml tube of Crimson Red
- 60 ml tube of Primary Yellow
- 250 ml tube of Titanium White
- 500 ml bottle of acrylic polymer emulsion painting medium (gloss or semi-gloss, not matte)
- 3 hog hair or nylon paint brushes, filbert shaped with long handles (sizes #2, #4, #8)
- a palette knife
- a mixing palette (the lid from an ice cream pail works well)
- containers for water (yogurt containers will suffice)
- a bar of hand soap
- a roll of Green Painter·s tape (1 inch wide)
- clean rags or paper towels
